Tau Beta Pi
The Engineering Honor Society
Officer Bios
President*–Kirsten Graves,CME
The first purpose of the officer cabinet is to create a vision of where we want this society to go. My purpose is to keep the Chapter on track to uphold this vision. There is a lot of red tape dealing with headquarters, and it is myjob to make sure it gets done efficiently and with least amount of stress to my members. The 2012 National Convention is coming, as well as the 2011 Regional Conference. I am preparing the chapter for these events. Recruitment must be top notch, participation wide, and enthusiasm high. I will network with leadership outside of UK and within. I also have help from the *Presidential Committee.
Vice President*–Andrea Ramsey, CME
I’m a senior in chemical engineering planning to work at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN after I graduate this May. I spent 3 terms at Eastman on coop and found a passion for process improvement and manufacturing. As an undergrad, I have been very involved in engineering organizations. I recently relinquished my title as President of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, and I’m currently vice president of Omega Chi Epsilon and Spring Banquet Director of the Society of Women Engineers. As Vice President of Tau Beta Pi, my main duties have been to support our President in any endeavors, plan and host our campus-wide Monte Carlo Casino Night, and organize the Engineering Honors Spring Banquet. I have greatly enjoyed my experiences and duties in Tau Beta Pi and look forward to the D-6 Regional Conference at UK
Treasurer–Jake Trimpe, ME
I am in charge of fundraising and handling the checkbook. The main responsibility is getting our tax form in, doing all purchases for meetings & events, as well as filling out the financial report at the end of the year. The entire chapter, especially those on the Presidential Committee, will have a lot of ideas for potential fundraisers–I determine if they are feasible.
Secretary–Sean Karlage, CompE
There are several reports the Initiation Chair must fill out. I double check their work with the President. I am also in charge of filling out all Project Reports after each project/event has been completed, and I help put together any award nominations or reports the chapter wishes to submit to headquarters (ex: Distinguished Alumnus Award). I must be at every chapter meeting to take minutes as well, so I can send them out and post them for absent members or the public to review online.
Convention Representative–Melody Burkhart, EE
I get to go to Valley Forge for the National Convention in the Fall. It is an excused absence where I get to participate in national business for the organization. I will be assigned a committee to be a part of, ranging from petitions to be a new chapter (former President Kassy Lum helped to install Kentucky-Gamma at the University of Western Kentucky last year) to bids for future Convention locations. Iwill also have to attend Regional Conference in Nashville in the Spring. I have the opportunity to meet Tau Bates from around the country, representing Kentucky Alpha. This is very important, as I will be reminding everyone that 2012 National is in Lexington!
2012 Convention Arrangements Chair– Brandon Isaac, CME
I am a junior double majoring in chemical engineering and physics. In addition to my role in Tau Beta, I am the general manager in the UK solar car team. This position is unique as we will be hosting the national convention next semester. I am responsible for overseeing the organization of this event.
Initiation Chair* (Corresponding Secretary)–Adrianne Shearer, CME; Jim Kramer, ME
We are the liaisons between the initiates and the active members. We are in charge of contacting those eligible, our electees, hosting the Smoker and scheduling times for people to help with Initiation Week each semester. There are 3 reports we must fill out for headquarters on the online system which are critical to the organization. We get help from the *Initiation Committee, President, and Secretary.
Tutoring Czar/Outreach Officer*–Clay Greenwell,CE
I am the only paid officer. I’m in charge of getting tutoring participants for Sun-Thurs 3-9pm free TBP Tutoring in RGAN Commons. I must also tutor. I’m in charge of finding replacements if someone cannot make their time slot, and turning in all timesheets when necessary. I am also the liaison between local high schools and TBP. There are several high schools who wish for tutoring in math/science as well as AP Review sessions from members. I arrange these meetings and get volunteers. The tutors are the *Outreach Committee, as well as anyone else who wishes to be so.
Webmaster–Forrest Simmons, CS
We have a new website going up, and it needs HELP. I am in charge of bringing up to date and adding all pages, photos, summaries, etc. throughout the year so people may see what is going on within the chapter. It is crucial for communication, as well as information about the Chapter.
ESC Representative–Kathleen McCarte, ME
I am in charge of telling the Engineering Student Council what is going on within TBP. I also have to help ESC with planning and hosting their activities in order to keep TBP in the clear with the Dean’s Office. This is a great networking opportunity. In addition, I am in charge of the E-week events leading up to E-day.
